Investigation and characterization of TiO2-TFC nanocomposite membranes; membrane preparation and UV studies
Authors
Abstract:
The purpose of this study was to compare the presence or absence of UV irradiation on the separation performance and morphology of the TiO2-assembled thin film membranes (in different concentrations). Furthermore, an attempt was made to show and compare the effect of the presence of TiO2 nanoparticles in aqueous and organic phases during the interfacial polymerization process. SEM, zeta potential, water contact angle, and other characterization methods like the molecular weight cut-off (MWCO), as well as antifouling measurements and the separation ability tests were utilized to characterize the thin layer properties. SEM images showed an integrated distribution of the nanoparticles under the PA skin layers. The rejection capability against the sugars was increased with the growth of TiO2 concentration in the absence of UV. Accordingly, the MWCO of the membranes changed from 420 Da to less than 150 Da. In this case, the flux recovery ratio significantly enhanced while the surface negative charge increased. On the other hand, the membrane pore sizes increased under UV irradiation. Changes in flux and separation performance were significant and considerable during the lack of UV irradiation in comparison with using UV.

Titanium dioxide has been widely used for photo-catalytic and self-cleaning activities. In this study, TiO2 /SiO2 /Co nanocomposite was prepared by sol-gel method in the presence of Polyvinyl Pyrrolidone (PVP), and Hydroxyl Propyl Cellulose (HPC) as additives, and characterized by IR spectra, Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Energy Dispersive Analytical X-Ray (EDAX), and X-Ray Diffraction (X...
full textPreparation and Characterization of CA−PEG−TiO2 Membranes: Effect of PEG and TiO2 on Morphology, Flux and Fouling Performance
Modified cellulose acetate (CA) membranes were prepared by dissolving the polymers in a mixture of acetone (AC) and N, N dimethylacetamide (DMAc) (70:30) solvent and deionized (DI) water was used in the coagulation bath. The introduction of polyethylene glycol (PEG) additive and TiO2 nanoparticles (NPs) into the casting solution has changed the structures of the resulting membranes during the p...

1. to determine whether difference in birth body mass influenced growth performance in pipistrellus kuhlii we studied a total of 12 captive-born neonates. bats were assigned to two body mass groups: light birth body mass (lbw: 0.89 ± 0.05, n=8) and heavy birth body mass (hbw: 1.35 ± 0.08, n=4). heavier body mass at birth was associated with rapid postnatal growth (body mass and forearm length) ...
